March 30--The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Golf Classic is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Boca Greens Country Club in Boca Raton. The tournament will be hosted by Swinehart, Shea & Associates, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services to benefit the Gordon Gilbert Scholarship Fund.

Since 1995, Friends of Gumbo Limbo has offered the Gordon J. Gilbert Scholarship for graduating high school seniors who will be going into the environmental field, including biology, marine biology, ecology, education, medical, law, etc.

Over the years, the Friends have awarded over $60,000 to over 30 recipients. In 2009, a scholarship was added for graduate students pursuing research relating to the Center's mission of coastal marine education, conservation, and research. In 2012, two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to the best qualified high school seniors.

The 2012 recipients of the Gordon J. Gilbert will receive their awards at the dinner following the tournament. Non-golfers may register for the dinner only.
